Train Drivers

Do you have a passion for trains? Have you dreamed of driving a heritage train?

We are seeking applications from rail enthusiasts to operate our solar powered heritage railcars in Byron Bay. Full training will be provided to suitable applicants.

Essential

• Meet the Category 1 Medical Standards as set out in the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers. Byron Bay Railroad Company will arrange and pay for medical examination for suitable applicants.
• Comply with alcohol and drug policies as mandated in Rail Safety National Law.
• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Be able to successfully complete the Heritage Passenger Train Driver Course. All training will be provided free on site by Byron Bay Railroad Company.

Desirable

• A keen interest in railways or transport.
• A desire to contribute to the community.
• A current first aid certificate.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the train and adhere to all safe working regulations, company instructions and requirements of Rail Safety National Law and our rail safety accreditation.
• Be responsible for the safe operation of the train.
• Perform minor maintenance and be responsible for all first level servicing and provisioning.
• Work as a team to provide a memorable customer experience and be an ambassador for Byron Bay Railroad Company.
• Participate in the development of a culture of safety within the organisation.
• Complete reports and documents as required.
• Supervise Passenger Attendants.
• Maintain competency in all operational skills. Be willing to engage in training to update skills.
