Train drivers (volunteer)

Do you have a passion for trains? Have you dreamed of driving a heritage train?

We are seeking applications from train enthusiasts to operate our solar powered heritage railmotor in Byron Bay.

To succeed you will need to have a positive disposition, be flexible and possess an exceptional work ethic. All paid casual positions have been filled and we are now seeking to fill a number of casual volunteer positions.

Essential

  • Be qualified or be able to qualify as a locomotive driver.
  • Be rail safe working qualified or be able to qualify.
  • Have a current drivers licence.
  • Meet fitness for work requirements in respect to health standards and alcohol and drug policies.

Desirable

  • Be qualified to drive trains in NSW.
  • Have a track inspection qualification.
  • Have a current first aid certificate.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive BBRC train and adhere to all safe working regulations, company instructions and requirements of safety accreditation.
  • Perform minor maintenance and be responsible for all first level servicing and provisioning activities.
  • Participate in the development of a culture of safety within the organisation.
  • Report and document any incidents of breaches of OH&S regulations and company policies.
  • Supervise Passenger Attendants.
  • Report any safety matters immediately to the Rail Safety Manager.
  • Be prepared to engage within a rotating roster including weekends and public holidays.
  • Maintain flexible work arrangements (duties may include general office work, yard/train examination and/or maintenance work).
  • Maintain competency in all operational skills. Be willing to engage in training to update skills.
