Passenger Attendants

Have you dreamed of working on a heritage train, blowing the whistle and calling out “All aboard”?

We are seeking applications from rail enthusiasts with a sunny disposition to operate our solar powered heritage train. Full training will be provided to suitable applicants.

Passenger Attendants are required to undertake a broad range of station functions with a focus on providing exceptional customer service. Functions include responding courteously and efficiently to customer enquiries, ticket sales, ensuring the safety of customers and maintaining the presentation of stations and our heritage train.


  • Comply with alcohol and drug policies as mandated in Rail Safety National Law.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Byron Bay Railroad Company Passenger Attendant Course. This will require basic literacy and numeracy skills. All training will be provided free on-site.
  • Be at least 15 years of age.


  • A keen interest in railways or transport.
  • A desire to contribute to the community.
  • A current first aid certificate.

Key responsibilities

  • Ticketing and fare collection, use of EFTPOS machine and cash balance.
  • Attend to passenger requirements including assisting elderly and disabled passengers to board or disembark the train (a ramp is provided).
  • Work as a team to provide a memorable customer experience and be an ambassador for Byron Bay Railroad Company.
  • Maintain presentation and cleanliness of train, passenger platforms and amenities.
  • Participate in the development of a culture of safety within the organisation.
  • Complete reports and documents as required.
  • Maintain competency in all operational skills. Be willing to engage in training to update skills.
  • Assist the train driver in abnormal or emergency conditions including to safely evacuate the train if required.
